Laconia Wreck
« on: June 19, 2013, 10:54:49 AM »

My Dad wrecked at Laconia last week and has been laid up since.  He had a concussion, broken collar bone, and 3 lower vertebrae  damaged.  A 79 year old blue hair pulled out in front of him and he ended up t-boning her (her fault).  He is home now recovering.  Him and I are both done with riding, 3 wrecks for him and I have had 1 wreck.  We enjoyed riding and the fellowship that came with it.  I certainly enjoyed this site and the people I have met.  We'll be into hot rods from this point forward. Thanks in advance for the well wishes on my Dad.

Take Care everyone!

After an accident it is a personal choice to what a rider does. Have been riding over 50 yrs........would have been only 4 if I had stopped after my 1st (and only) wreck. There is nothing that could replace the times my son and I have had while riding. Again, its a personal choice. Good luck with the Hot Rods, they are a blast also.

Hope your Dad heals quick and to 100%, Hot rods are awesome and one of my passions also but hey I almost did the end of story on a bicycle.
People will mow you down simply walking in your front yard!

Best of luck to you both.

 God bless,  Mike

Really sorry to hear about your Dad, I hope he heals quickly.  Most of us that have been riding for decades have seen the change in drivers attention span over the years.  People used to actually stop at stop signs a few years ago,  now they just slow down with the intention of driving thru and plan to stop only if someone is on the road.  Bike week was a little crazier than normal, I won't go into details but I have never had so many close calls than I did last week, a few were people on motorcycles.  I'm all for mandatory testing after a certain age, most will pass but some just don't belong on the road.  Items that distract drivers like cell phones etc. needs to be addressed before any more lives are altered or lost.  Can't remember the post but I remember someone writing about how much easier it is to drive and do multi tasking versus the older days when you needed two hands on the wheel.  We are making everything faster & easier for people to get hurt.  Can't blame you for your decision but it's a darn shame that it's for your own safety reasons.  I think we all have the idea of stopping riding when we want to, we want it to be our decision not from feeling like a potential victim out there.  It's not going to get better that's for sure.  I live in NH so if you need any assistance with storage or need anything else please PM me.

Best of luck in the future.

Mike, sorry to hear about your dad.  Prayers and good wishes to a speedy and complete recovery.  Also understand about the not wanting to ride anymore.  Had an accident many years ago (shattered my scapula) but was young, healed fast and back on 'em.  Have to say, with all the distracted (age or otherwise) drivers out there these days, it's more dangerous for us two wheelers.  Hate to see you leave the ranks but good luck with the hot rods.

Holy Crap Mike! I was shocked to see the photo. Thought someone stole my bike and wrecked it. Didn't your dad just get that bike? I sure hope he heals up quickly. Just went back through our messages on the sissy bar pad. I'm truly sorry this happened to your dad!

I can understand your desire to move on from bikes. Have been in some close spots myself and know the more miles I ride, the higher the probability of something going wrong.

Hope you enjoy the rods. My best friend gets to town tonight in his 32 Chevy for the big rod weekend here in the Cities. Always enjoy looking at other guys toys as well.

Hope to see you down the road.

Watch out for motorcyclists!
