early 2010 CVO FLHTCUSE GPS/NIM questions
« on: July 18, 2013, 05:39:53 PM »

I've searched and haven't found the info I'm looking for and not being an electronic person by any means please pardon my ignorance about this topic.

My 2010 CVO FLHTCUSE was an early year model and came with the crappy HK GPS unit that uses a CD. Since there are no longer updates and my eyes can't see the small font, I'd like to replace it with a RT Zumo 660 that is fairing mounted. I'll keep the OEM CB and XM receiver but I don't want any wiring exposed.

Three questions before I start spending dollars:

1. Is there a NIM already installed on the bike? Not sure how the original GPS or CB communicates thru the radio now but it seems there should be some type of interface already. Or am I stuck needing to purchase a NIM?
2. IF there is a NIM or I purchase one do I still need to add an AUX port on the back of the radio for the GPS or does the NIM take care of the issue with all the wiring inside the fairing.
3. Is there any other wiring contraption needed to make this work?

Any and all help is appreciated.

The answers for your questions would take some time to type out. If you want to give me a call I will help you decide what to do. It all depends on how you want things to work and what functionality you want.

Your bike did not come from the factory with a NIM installed, you will need to install one if you want the capabilities afforded with the NIM

2. IF there is a NIM or I purchase one do I still need to add an AUX port on the back of the radio for the GPS or does the NIM take care of the issue with all the wiring inside the fairing.

You need to add the AUX input on the back of the radio if you want it. This will hide the connection for the AUX input.

3. Is there any other wiring contraption needed to make this work?

If you want to have the capability to make and take phone calls you will need the HD Bomm.

You may need a YSplitter and a 3.5mm male cable if you want to be able to hear MP3 songs, weather and traffic alert or listen to XM if you have the model 665.

It gets a bit complicated and all depends on what functionality you want.

Call me if you have questions I will be happy to help if I can.
