103 Overhaul Kits
« on: July 23, 2013, 08:22:42 PM »

Is there a difference between the engine overhaul kits of a stock CVO 103  and a stock non-CVO 103? What about the difference in the different name brand? I've heard that cometic gaskets seal real well where as james gaskets don't seal that well. This is the first HD overhaul for myself and I don't really want to start up my lil girl and have her leaking all over. Anyone have experience, personal experience of rebuilding one your seal...self? Oops my bad!

Never had issues with the James gaskets on the twin cams but have had issue with some of the Cometic head gaskets.

Stay with the stock Harley gaskets and you will be fine.....I find them the best of all, however I do use the Cometic .030 head gaskets a lot and yes I have had a few fail in my day.

Is there a difference in the stock 103 kits vs the CVO 103 kits?

Yes, but only different valve seals
Best to use current production OEM CVO 110 seals on those 103 CVO heads assuming stock rebuild on the heads

Whatever gasket you do use, make sure you adhere to the torque spec, and sequence, per the factory service manual. :2vrolijk_21:

We too, certainly prefer the MLS EST Cometic gaskets here as well.
