The following is lifted directly from H-D's 2007 tech literature, indicating that some CVO's do in fact still require cats':

HD has a history of using up leftover parts from the previous year on new models and since the bikes out now are early production, they may have gotten the leftover CAT mufflers. Kind of a Chitty way to do business, but they knew no one would buy them.

Now why the heck would "some" require it and not all or none? Thats odd.

Where did you find this stamped?

Thx,

mark

On top of the mufflers half covered by the heat shield.  Also stamped are the part numbers and statement of EPA standards and noise also.

Okay. I just finished a solid hour in the "Not Riding this weekend - no Warranty" thread (I think thats the name). I bought a SERT about a week ago and have installed the disk into my laptop. However I have NOT opened or installed the other little box that comes with it. It has not been hooked to my Smurf (blue 07 SEUC). So I am thinking of returning it for a refund.

I wouldn't let my experience stop you from using the sert. My problem was the ass in Wisconsin who diagnosed my bike through the phone.

I would use the sert again. The sert does not cause engine failure, and the factory would have to prove that what I did caused the failure, which they cannot, hence the reason for completing the repair under warranty. If that is what you want, go for it.

Porthole,

Thanks for your reply. As I mentioned I do have the SERT but I still have not installed it yet. I replaced my stock mufflers yesterday with the V&H Ovals while over here in Daytona.... what a difference in sound!! I haven't been able to ride it other than a short jaunt up the road to test them out. It should relieve some heat as the muffs that were on there were SOLID cats. The SE ones a friend bought for his 07 police bike had the cats surrounding the baffle. After the ride to go get my Ovals yesterday, I checked the heat with an infra red digital and the jugs were about 320 F and the internal muffs were 496. So surely just replacing them will aleviate some of the heat. Once I get used to the new Ovals (bored  ;)) I will probably change out to the Bassani true duals with the power curve. At that time I will add the SERT and probably an Arlen Ness Big Sucker AC system.
