Silver motor paint ??
« on: November 07, 2007, 12:10:03 PM »

Here's my question. I'm building an Electra Glide Standard, that as you know has a silver motor. I want to paint the starter. I know it's powder coating, paint, rattel can, any idea's, Hoppe's started cover won't work with true duals and I don't want chrome. Did I just say I don't want chrome on this site??   Thanks for your help...Sid

Well if you want to rattle can it, Rustoleum works well, I've painted engine blocks with it and it has lasted for years. I'm sure there are other paints you can use. The main thing is to clean it good and then scuff the starter with fine sand paper before painting.

I don't have a problem with rattle can, good prep and it works fine. My question is has anyone found the brand and color to match?

Thanks Van, I'll give it a try.

Yes JC, after we had breakfast Saturday with Hoist and everybody, Mike and I went to Brentwood and I rode it home. It's already on the lift in pieces. All the tins are going to the painter tomarrow, I keep you posted...Sid

If you want to "rattle can" it, you could give it some texture with "hammer tone" paint.  You can find it at some hardware stores -- it  is what safes are painted with a lot of the time.  Looks like it has little dimples in the finish (kinda like Harley's  :orange: peel  ;) -- except it's on purpose)
