Steering Head Adjustment
« on: July 16, 2013, 12:54:46 PM »

I need to adjust my steering head on my SERG.  Does anyone know the size of the fork stem nut?  I need to pickup a socket and I don't want to tear it a part to measure it.

I have the adjustment tool and plan on picking up some Special Purpose Grease, Part No. 99857-97 to make sure the neck is properly filled.  I also saw the recommendation to replace the grease zert with a 90 degree one.

I believe it is 1 5/16. I can double check here shortly.

Thank you.

Is there a better grease to use then the HD Special Purpose Grease, Part No. 99857-97?

The nut on a 2011 RG is 1-1/2

Also, if you get frustrated trying to adjust the bearing with the tool, you won't be able to see the star, once you get the nut and washer off you're able to see the top of the adjuster nut, use a pin punch to put a small dimple in the edge then use the pin punch to adjust the bearing, worked great for me.
