Didn't realize that getting something other than a small bottle of touch-up paint for our Crushed Sapphire Blue '13 CVORK would become a quest.

Any issues with paint blistering on the H-D mid-frame heat deflectors that have been painted?

Yes some of the colors for HD are soo very expensive to even make when some of the specialty pearls flake run almost $1000 per 4 oz bottle- Granted it does a few bikes but keep in mind that is just for one of many additives used plus the actual base and clear- Reminds me of that game they call Monopoly...Ha
We have a Swinebox tour pk scheduled to paint in Sapphire w/fusion RK later this month if you wish to have items done I should have formula taken care of then-

I had the same problem getting the 100th anniversary RK tank painted. Painter could not find the math, period. So what did he do? HE bought 2 touch up bottles, emptied them in to the gun and had just enough perfect paint to do the tank. Genius!!  If you can get the touch up paint, then you are in business, will just have to buy a few of them. Cheers.

FXD, you're kinda scaring me with the heat stuff.  This is my first Harley, and while I knew that they ran hotter than my VTX I didn't know they were up in that territory.   :o

Is there anything I need to be aware of in do's/don'ts for heat (outside of the obvious "don't touch stuff")?

To get the thread back on the rail, I will also be looking to get some good references for paint to be ready for mod or touchup work.

Sorry, didn't mean to derail a thread - I was just wondering if I need to do something different with the pipes (i.e. modify or replace them) so that more heat is transferred away from the engine.

Since this isn't a vendor thread  and we've asked vendors to not discuss prices in threads/board other than the Vendor Discount it may be best to send Joe/Xtreme a PM for that information.

Joe Z - thanks for the offer.  I'll definitely look you up if/when I add a swinebox for the back.  Since my wallet has informed me that it will be quite some time before the empty holes in it are stitched from the initial purchase, it will probably be a year or two before that's possible.  My head is still reeling that I paid that much for a motorcycle.

Stay "tuned,"

Thanks, FXD - you did a fantastic job on the install blog.  I went over to the Intake/Exhaust/xxxxx area and went through quite a few threads there on exhaust.  I'm pretty much sold on the Fullsac/TTS combo.  Unfortunately, since purchasing the bike was such a stretch for me (had to go 7 years to make the payments reasonable - I've never taken a vehicle loan for that long) I'll probably have to wait a few years before doing this mod.  I REALLY would like to do it now, but it's just not going to happen.  I'm hoping to drop about 10k in principle over the next 2 years and then see if I can refi the loan for a shorter length and smaller payment.  Then I'll be comfortable starting the mods.  As such, I'm hoping that the pipes won't be a bear to deal with from being on the bike so long.  I don't put too many miles on, so it may be next year before I even get to my 1000 service (bike will go for it's long winter nap in less than a month).

I may shoot you a question or two when I get close to doing the job, although your install blog was pretty thorough.  I'll be using a dremel as well when the time comes, and will be going VERY slow and light so I don't go deeper into the pipe than necessary.

Thanks again,

Tru

tru blu,

if funds are tight, try looking at the fullsac sportpipe.  $279 with exchange, or $349 outright, its a very economical alternative to a full exhaust.  you can also do the fullsac baffles in the stock pipes, or just leave them as they are.  but it will help a lot with your heat problems.
