Radio "update" ??
« on: October 20, 2013, 10:08:38 PM »

Took my Roadglide in for the right side speakers cutting in and out all the time. That have had it for basically a month. I got a call from the dealer yesterday and said there was an "update for my radio"?? Have you seen the radio! Haha. It's the same radio they have used for years. It's way outdated so how can it be updated or what does the "update" consist of?  Thanks!!

An "update" of the radio is not a new replacement radio.  It is a software update in your existing radio.

What does that consist of? Didn't know a radio of that age could get an update? Thanks!

Instructions are on Harleys' site, go to the "other downloads" section for the "old" HK units

http://www.harley-davidson.com/en_US/Content/Pages/Owners/infotainment/software-downloads.html

Basically you copy the file onto a disc and then put the disc into the CD player on the HK unit and update the operating system (software) in the radio. i've done it a few times in the past. the instructions are actually pretty easy to follow. You can check the version of the software in your head unit first to determine if you actually need to do the update or not.

I do have a rather innocent question --- why didn't the dealer just do the update for you?? Especially if your having issues with the unit  :nixweiss:

Honestly I'm not sure? Funny thing is that I researched a lot on here and other places and told them when I dropped it off what it could be. Guess they didn't know what to do or didn't research? I'm not happy with this dealer AT ALL!! Thanks for the help!!

If they are going to charge you for the update let me know I can send you the disc if you can't burn it yourself. I had to have someone else burn it for me because my writer is too fast and it needs a very slow speed to burn for it to work.

What does the update give you?  I have v8.19, the new one is v8.25.

8.25 had an adjustment for VOX sensitivity and iPod module control
8.19 is good and stable and if you're not using VOX or the iPod module, leave it alone.

As far as the dealer "updating" for a right speaker issue...wont solve that issue.
