2004 Radio
« on: November 04, 2006, 05:58:46 PM »

I can't get my CD palyer to operate.  I inserted a disc but the select button on the handlebar will not cycle to CD mode.  I get FM 1, FM 2, WB and AM, but no CD.  This started I think when my radio got wet (rain).  It seems as though it is off, no display of time, etc., then all of a sudden it comes on, seems to be OK except for the CD mode problem.  Anyone have this problem?  Suggestions?

Pete, Kathy's 06 is doing the same thing. It is going to be replaced. Do you have warranty left? Sealer said it is covered under warranty.

Brian, bike is out of warranty, but I think I can remove from the bike and dry it out to get it to work.  Compressed air has gotten it to this point.  Didn't work at all initially.

Pete;
I would stay away from blowing air into the unit. It could drive the moisture further in and also may damage the laser pickup. My suggestion would be to remove the radio, open the top and let the unit dry out naturally if its wet inside. The CD portion is a separate unit that pugs into the main circuit board via a small ribbon cable. You could also check to be sure that that the ribbon cable and connector have no corrosion on them.

How about CRC electronic cleaner. I use it on the boats electronics after a wet trip. It is supposed to dry out moisture in electronic equipment.

That works as well, I still would not spray into the CD slot. It can only dissipate so much moisture. Its best to open it up.
