Difference between Daymaker LED and Daymaker reflector LED?
« on: November 28, 2013, 04:47:21 PM »

This may be old news to you guys but I thought it may be useful in fo to someone. Now that I have decided to use the Sylvania Silverstar Ultra's in the interim, while saving for an LED headlight, it is time to decide which LED headlight I want. I have been trying to find some real world comparison between the Daymaker and the Daymaker reflective without much luck. I did find these links with info an comparison's between the trucklite phase 7 ( which looks just like the daymaker reflective to me) and the JW Speaker 8700 (which looks just like the original daymaker to me). Based on this info I am leaning toward the original daymaker which I can purchase for $420.00 from Kutterharleyonline.

Hey guys I just noticed on this link that the JW Speaker 8700 light is $390.00 which is close to the $420.00 price from Kutter but the JW Speaker light comes with a 4 year warranty instead of Harley's 1 year warranty. I just sen them an EMail asking if it has the same dimensions and electrical connections as the Harley Daymaker. I will let ya'll know what they say. The following link goes to the web page that shows the price and the fact that it has a 4 year warranty.

Well I just went back to that web page that is linked in my last post and watched the embedded in it and it states that the light will fit a Harley Davidson 7 inch bucket. HOWEVER, the connection is an H4 so now I have to figure out what connector the Daymaker has and if there is an adapter. My 2013 SERK has an H11 connector for the low beam and an H9 connector for the high beam. Does anyone here know what connector is on the Daymaker?

The Daymaker has an H4 connector.  Your bike also has an H4 connector, to which a short adapter cable is attached that provides the H11 and H9 connectors.  Trace the wires back from those two connectors and you should find where the short harness plugs into the original H4 connector.  See attachment.

OK awesome. Thanks Jerry. I just have not ever had the Nacelle apart so I was not sure. I was looking at the installation instructions on Harley's website and the Daymaker comes with a Mounting ring assembly part number 68124-04B and 8 washers (FLHR only) part number 6717, which are listed as service parts. I am going to call the Harley shop and see how much these service parts cost on their own. I am leaning hard towards the JW Speaker version of the Daymaker because in that video on the webpage it said that it now comes with a LIFETIME warranty!!

Well I found out that the mounting ring and washers from Kutter would be $51.00 I am sure I can find something else to get to bring that up to the free shippin point. Then is is 20.00 to ship the light. Anyway I would be at $460.00 for the JW Speaker version of the Daymaker and the HD Daymaker is $420.00 from Kutter. That means I would basically be gettin a lifetime warranty on the light for $40.00. What do ya'll think is th warranty worth the $40.00 :nixweiss:

IMHO a warranty is only as f=good as the company offering it. Yep, you may get a lifetime one with JW Speaker, but what if they are not around for a "lifetime". Also, how deep are their pockets? If there is a mass defect, can thy pay all that have bad units? Just my $.02

I was thinking the same thing at first about the warranty only being as good as the company. However JW Speaker is the company that is making the Daymaker for Harley. So if JW Speaker is gone so is the HD Daymaker. Still undecided but I have some time, it will probably be mid year 2014 before I pull the trigger on this. I am also interested to see if the rumored LED headlight from custom dynamics comes out soon.

Don't think those are the ones (see this thread - Custom Dynamics LED Headlights - Fact or Fiction???). They are mentioned in the referenced thread but CD is indicating those aren't the ones in development that are coming out. :nixweiss:

If you could while on the phone, ask if their product will be flush fit rather than all the extended units on the market.

I spoke with custom dynamics today and the lady I spoke with said that their new headlight was supposed to be out in February. She also said that she did not have any specific specs but that it was supposed to through light farther than the Daymaker or trucklight. She also said that she knows the design engineers are aware of the trucklight not mounting flush so she feels confident that theirs is going to mount flush.
