If you change pistions cam exhaust and put on a thundermax tuner does it retune the bike as you ride or does it have to still be dynoed?

One thing to recognize or realize is that Thundermax never "retunes" the engine regardless of any other circumstance.  It can't change timing at all.  Not even retarding in case of recognized detonation while running as T-Max doesn't monitor the ION knock detection system on the bike.  Thundermax only adjusts fuel; that's it.

Next thing to recognize then is that the base map is vitally important.  It needs to be close.  Their map library is a crap shoot.  Some are ok.  Some aren't.  It's a crap shoot.  None will be as good a starting point as if you had your bike well tuned to start.

I'm not specifically knocking Thundermax.  I use it on my older bike.  Just have to recognize that in some areas it has some significant limitations and work accordingly.  Personally I wouldn't use it on a bike that has TTS, PV or the most recent SE tuning package as options.  But others feel differently.  We each have our own poisons.

If you made that much of a change, it would be best to check that the loaded map is good for that build.  The spark maps will need to reflect the compression change, they do not self adjust.  Tech support will walk you through it.  And if it's not correct, they will point you at the map you should start with.

Basically bore and stroke along with injector size are the most important variables.   After that the spark map.  The Tmax will adjust the fuel curve quite a bit on it's own.

If you change compression then you'll need to be ready to work with the spark maps.  It's not hard, but it helps if you are familiar with what you're doing.  And without a dyno, you'll be doing a lot of edit/road test cycles.

The other issue is that historically, there are not all that many people out there who can work with the T-max.  I'm sure that has improved some since a few years ago, but it's still an area to check out. And, as mentioned, the base map you start with for the "auto tuning" is CRITICAL.

As previously mentioned, and IMO as well, there are better alternatives in TTS, SEPRO Race Tuner, and some of the Powervision products.

For ME, the T-max would be my last choice.  But there are many folks who just love them, so to each his/her own.

For ME, the T-max would be my last choice.

There is one place I like to use them TC.  Their kit to convert an old Marelli bike to Delph/T-Max.  Compared to about anything else in the modern capable systems T-Max is way behind the curve.  But if you've got a quirky acting a Marelli bike and want to get away from it their kit is a viable and productive option.

It's not cheap.  There are also other ways to get away from Marelli (though not necessarily cheaper ways--it all gets expensive).  But if someone wants an all-in-one-box way to upgrade from M&M and solve some of the M&M quirks it's a realistic and effective option.

Unlike many I don't hate the old M&M bikes at all.  But you can build an engine beyond what the M&M system can be tuned for and obsolescence will become more and more of a factor from Mother Harley.  So it's nice to have an option.  It's the kit that's on my old Road Glide.  After the gawdawful tedium of really dialing in the canned and not nearly accurate Zippers supplied map (that was supposed to be "close" but wasn't nearly) it's fine.  But there's no other place I'd recommend it preferentially over TTS or PV.

Down load the manual from the web and read it.
