Do I need to change Cam bearings?
« on: January 04, 2014, 12:59:19 AM »

OK, I had to purchase a new set of engine cases for my 2007 SERK due to being broken in an accident. Plan on installing the Feuling 574c cams and was wondering if the new cam bearings will be fine or should I change them to timkins? I sent the new cases along with the crankshaft to Silver Moon in WI. To have the crank rebuilt, trued, welded and installed in the cases. Have not built a twin cam before and really only want to do this once. Thanks for any advice given either positive or not. I have thick skin...LOL Chris. :orange:

If the new cases came with the full roller (non-caged) bearings then no. If they have the caged type bearings then yes absolutely change them to a full roller bearing.

... and if you can't tell by looking or supplied documentation just change them.  They're cheap.  Too cheap to leave as a concern.

Thanks for the input. The cases have full roller bearings w/out those stinking cages...LOL. So it look as though I'm good.

And don't forget about new lifters. Stockers were total garbage.  S&S a good choice.
Also consider a new compensator if you're still running the original

Are you going to have Silvermoon install the H-beam (Carillo) rods with the caged bearings?

No "H" rods on the rebuild. Mike and I discussed what I was doing with the bike and he said just to rebuild the crank assy along with a true and weld of the crankshaft pins. Mike is a great guy and the work was performed in a timely fashion and even with that, he felt it took to long and didn't charge me for shipping. I highly recommend his services.
