To Wrap or Not to Wrap
« on: December 08, 2013, 10:04:12 AM »

Rain/ice today. Good time to install my Fullsac baffle's. How many wraps? Have heard say some say none and every variation too 3. What say the Brain Trust?

I did one complete wrap around the mesh screen just overlapping it enough to keep it in place as I slid it into the pipe.Do you have the screens that keep the material to the outside of the housing?

No mess screens, just the pipes with the slit openings.

The screens hold the packing material to the outer wall of the muffler and make putting the baffle in much easier.Steve also said that it gives more internal volume to the muffler which helps power.I would just go one wrap with a little overlap to hold it.I only used the wrap from one muffler to do both and threw the rest away with the stock baffles. From his website: 2012-2014 CVO Perforated Muffler Sleeves

The new Fullsac muffler sleeves are highly recomended when installing our CVO Power cores. Starting in 2012, Harley began over stuffing the OEM mufflers with an excessive amount of sound absorbing material. Dyno testing has shown a loss in TQ when muffler volume is reduced. The new perf sleeves allow half of the packing to be removed while holding the stock material to the outer wall. This creates the needed air gap between the inner core and the outer wall in the muffler. A dyno proven combination that produces great sound quality and performance.

I first installed with no wrap and it was too loud for me.

Get the screens. I did the wrapping of the baffles first. I bought the screens and when I pulled the baffles to install the screens and new insulation I found my nicely wrapped baffles had become a bunch of stuffing at the the end of the baffles. Now that I've done the screens the butt dyno and my ears feel and hear a difference.

Is it hard to get the wrapping off? I have the 2" fullsac cores on the dx (I think?) pipes, with my "designer" v&h high output mufflers. It hasn't been loud enough for me....maybe I need to make a trip to see Steve in Lake Havasu?
