2014 High Output Charging System now available as P&A
« on: September 12, 2013, 11:37:57 PM »

Just saw that the new HO charging system has a P&A part number for earlier model year touring bikes. The new system puts out a max of 56 amps (vs 43 amps) and it also delivers a 30% (6 amp) increase in output at idle (1000rpm).

Pretty significant improvement but it's also pretty pricey at $489.95 retail.

Part Number is:
High Output Charging System-29900028

Fitment is:
2011-later Touring, 2010-later CVO Touring, and 2009-later Trike

I might do it this winter but wanted to pass this along in case folks are feeling the need.
Time for some bigger amps ... (hahahaha)

Take care all

I'd like to know how the voltage regulator in this kit bolts up.

Does anyone know where I can find the install instructions for this kit?

Thanks

Here's part 1 of the instructions.  Had to break it up to fit.

Thanks for the instructions. Where did you find them?

I used to see them on HD's web site, but not anymore.

Can't see it illustrated on that exploded drawing but there's supposed to be a port on the new regulators that accepts a cable.  It's a simple plug in cable to check output of the regulator for diagnostic purposes.  You'd have to buy the diagnostic cable to use it.  But it'd be nice to be able to more easily isolate one piece from another.

Is this HD High Output Charging System 3-phase?

It is according to the Service Parts Table, as shown in the second instruction pdf posted by RetSUBLDO.

TIF2: good info on this.

Question: Parts catalog shows a 50 amp stator and 45 amp voltage regulator (on both my '08 and '11 Ultras), while this kit 29900028 shows a 54 amp stator and 54 amp VR.  Does this mean the older systems are limited to 45 amps by the VR, and would this new VR enable us to get 50 amps from our system without changing to the new stator and rotor?

Thanks,
Bryce
