Bought a pre owned CVO 2011 Street Glide
« on: January 19, 2014, 08:11:46 PM »

Just bought a pre owned CVO 2011 Street Glide and I can't wait to ride, the question I want to ask is that the bike is a quipped with a thundermax tuner and Rinehart's true duals, can anyone give me an opinion on the thundermax tuner? I have never heard of it.

Hey did you buy the CVO from Clair's Harley close to Niagara Falls?  If this is the bike, you must of met my friend who came in to buy that bike, he was to late as it was just sold to you a few minutes prior.

Thunder Max is a good system, however you could probably get more power out of your bike by using a system like TTS or the PC Vision and a good dino tune.  Nothing really beats a good solid dino tune.

And I think even the Thunder Max needs a external tune of some kind to do the initial set up. Cheers.

I had bad experiences with the Thundermax on a '07 UC. Blamed it all on the TM Tuner until I found out that the builder was a POS. I would ride it for awhile and see how you like the performance. Have several friends that love their's.

Thundermax like any tuner is only as good as the person doing the tuning. There are tuners that do some of the same things and there are tuners that do the same along with different things. If the bike is running good for you now enjoy it. One other thing and someone else can confirm or correct it.... but doesn't the Thundermax replace the OEM ECM?? If so did you get the OEM ECM when you purchased the bike?? If not along w/purchasing another tuner you may be looking at getting an OEM ECM along w/the purchase of a new tuner.

simple answer it works , you do need to have correct setting in the ecm and make the updates. However the worst deal is that many dealers will not touch the bike due to the fact that the HD laptop does not read the tuner.  I would suggest you down load all the t max programs and install booklet. Read it, and make sure that you follow through it. Once the bike is tuned the tune movement can be reduced to very little . VS when you start the amount of adjustment is very broad. Many think its a auto so all you do is put it on and forget about it .. That is not even close you do have to make sure its doings its job and such.

How does it run now, if you are happy then leave it alone and ride.
My opinion; If you are a Do It Yourself guy, it's the most user friendly if you learn from the PDF manual(down load it on the Zippers site)

Opinion on the thundermax tuner? I have one on my 06 fatboy and it has performed well. I would give it thumbs up.

I would be glad it's there if it runs well. You could get in touch with the previous owner and ask that person. You saved some real bucks in my mind...

Had one on my last build. I can say I never had a bike run smoother, it just plain works. However if you are chasing dyno numbers, other products ay work a little better
