Oil pressure sender
« on: February 23, 2014, 12:36:33 PM »

I have a slight oil leak on my '12 cuse7 that appears to be coming from the oil pressure sender (p/n 74438-99A).  Anyone know what size wrench this fitting takes?  Hopefully nothing has to be removed to get it replaced - like the exhaust header - it's a pretty close fit.   :confused5:

Don't remember any specific wrench size Jerry.  Always use a sending unit socket for them.

Hang on a minute and I'll go out in the shop and see what/if any standard socket actually drops over the sending unit......

(insert Jeopardy final question music here while waiting)

Struck out.  Sending units aren't (generally) hex.  Inch sizes in 6 and 12 point had sockets either too large or too small for the three different sending units I tried them on.  Could drive something on for removal but that makes reinstallation... uh... problematic.

Metric sizes maybe.  No six point metric worked.  22 mm and 24mm 12 point sockets were too small and too large.  The 24mm 12 point would almost bite though.  For some reason my 12 points skip over 23 mm though so couldn't try that but I'd be optimisitic.  By the feel of things I'm guessing a 15/16" crows foot might work too.  15/16 is just barely under 24mm so those two are all in the potential working range.

Thanks Don.  Hoping a crows foot will work - I'll check that.  Frame and exhaust head pipe certainly restrict access to the sender don't they.

Very much.  Not sure if there will be room for a crows foot but it's worth a try.  If all else fails hit a local parts store for a sending unit socket.  They come in a few different sizes.  Most common will likely be the 1"-1 1/16" but any decent parts store should have size down too.  Shouldn't be an expensive too and with an extension the sending units can usually be reached past the pipe.
