2010 96" cam and tuner choice
« on: February 27, 2014, 02:36:44 PM »

Buddy has a 2010 ultra.   I want to get some more power for him.  He has a limited budget   I'm gonna do a breather, fulsac cat removal, it has V/H slip ons,   Not going into top end  What is a good cam and tuner for the 96?  I have always used Power commander    I have a set of 255s from my 110  are they a decent choice?   I will do lifters  &   pushrods and cam brgs with the cam change  Any help would be appreciated

255 are a good low end cam but do take a little time and effort to get tuned in right. I'm biased but TTS Mastertune is the tuner of choice.

I put them in my 2007 Fatboy and really liked them. I imagine they'd even be better in a touring bike! I had  PCV on that bike. Id go with one of the flash tuners now.

actually I'm amazed that there are NOT calibrations out for 255's in 96's. I'm even more amazed that hd doesn't have one out.

the few dyne charts I've seen of a 96 with a 255 look real good for guys with heavy bikes.

i keep doing mañana to any changes since i use zero oil and have zero blow by.. when the bike was brand new it filled the filter with oil, hd took it apart and redid the cylinders and rings and its perfect. don't want to mess it up.

most power choices require 500 for tuner, 500 for tune - plus whatever parts - labor i can do, I've rebuilt quite a few hd engines in the carb days, keep clean, follow the instructions, measure 5 times cut once. it helps that i have a full machine shop for personal entertainment.

so when its all said and done - the tune is way more than the parts.  and the tune is the ONLY part i have to pay cash out of pocket for - all the rest can be traded, swapped, ebay'd, [sell part x on ebay use paypal$ to buy part y on ebay] or just make in the shop. [well make in the shop entails mostly making fixtures - it takes 5 mins to mill something, might take 20 hours to make the fixture to hold it]

oh well.

buy the tuner from Fuel Moto.  They have a large library of canned maps they can send you with the tuner.  Likely have one for this

Those canned maps are like trying to wear someone else's shoes.........some might fit, but most won't.

The calibration for tuning that works very well for a base is the CVO 110 stage i cal. It will need a bunch of work but for a base cal it is great. As already stated canned  maps are just something that is in the ball park. Like I said you can get the CVO cal to run and drive with from there it needs to be tuned to your application.

I like the TTS, but I like the twintec WEGO3 in conjunction with the TTS better for self tunning.
