Problems with Progressive Monotube
« on: March 12, 2014, 07:22:45 PM »

Is anyone having problems with the Monotube? I thought I had read about some problems with it but can't pick up the thread in a search. I am having a problem with a clanking noise and bottoming out when I go over anything which may have a sudden(slight) elevation change i.e. bridges, small potholes etc.

How old are they? There was an issue with some of the earlier units, I have not seen this in the last 18 months or so.....

They are about 1 yr. old. My mechanic checked with Progressive and they are sending a replacement. They said the same thing about how long ago they had problems. When it comes in we'll see.

There were lots of reports of clanking when they came out.  I thought it was fixed, but it sounds like the warranty's got you covered.

I have been for a while now. Same issues you described. Still waiting on my dealer to get the parts to fix it. Still waiting. I'll probably just bite the bullet soon and get the Traxion front setup.  I'm tired of waiting.

Thanks Robmay, this is the post I was trying to find. I won't do tear down until new set comes in. Strange I had a  bad set of Michelins I took off also.

Update-Just had new monotubes put in. Difference is easily felt. Mechanic that took the old ones out said he had not seen one like it. Spring collapsed(right side) and no to very slow recoil. Pictures sent to Progressive. May send defective ones back. Now I have to reset the rear ones. Thought hard ride was from rear also but now seems to be a touch soft.
