SERK 2007 - Chirping noise from Left Rear
« on: March 31, 2014, 07:11:54 PM »

There is an annoying chirping/squeaking noise that's coming from the back, left side of my 2007 SERK. When I press on the muffler from that side even slightly, the noise stops. I've tightened everything I can find but the noise persists, even with the saddle bag off.  The noise will also stop when giving a little gas but at idle with the engine vibrating, it's very annoying.  When listening closely, it seems to be coming from directly below where the passenger sits, behind the shock. But there's nothing there....  Any ideas?

A very common source for that chirp/squeak is the rubber mount for the rear of the muffler.  The fact your noise disappears when you touch the muffler tends to confirm my diagnosis.  Clean and lubricate the rubber mounts and see if that doesn't fix your annoying chirp.

The '05 SEEG does it from time to time, spray a little silicone on the rubber mount and see if the little bird flys away...

Had the identical issue on my SERK and found the tab on the left fender support bracket
Broken and the starter exhaust tab also snapped.
