Garage Floor Tiling Project DONE (almost...)
« Reply #106 on: May 05, 2014, 08:29:32 AM »

Well, I FINALLY did the Badger Den Garage floor tile project, to cover up the nasty stained and cracked concrete with something nicer - since virtually everyone comes into the Badger Den through the garage. Still need to cut and lay edge tiles along the rear wall and the steps, but that will be easy.

I went 'round and 'round on layout ideas, and finally came up with this. One can do only so much with 12" x 12" tiles...

These are SnapLock GarageTrac tiles with the double diamonds pattern. They are slightly lighter weight interlocking polypropylene tiles made in the USA (Utah) by the SnapLock company that makes RaceDeck tiles. I got them on sale for a really good price from big floors.com. They are the same 4-lug interlocking format as the Race Deck tiles, but they have a lower rating of 44,000 lbs vs. 55,000 lbs for the RaceDeck tiles. I figure they are good enough for my purposes, and there was a huge price difference from the RaceDeck tiles... like half the price!

Had to do a pano to get the whole logo in a pic... Honey Badger didn't make it in though!

Looks great, Ken.  Pretty soon, you can tear down the rest of the house and stay in the garage!  I like that floor...may look into that for our garage (although, it won't lead to a honey badger den as nice as yours... ;D )

Thanks, Howard! I really like these tiles so far. I think our dogs liked the cool bare concrete better, though.

I pretty much DO live in the garage, or elsewhere outdoors when the weather is nice... can't smoke indoors. We generally spend the evenings sitting in the garage, on our iPads and talking.

That floor looks great, Ken. Bet you still have sore knees! I laid tile on my porch last month and felt it for a week but it was worth it ( I told myself after every Advil...)

Art - my knees are STILL sore from when I laid the tiles last Thursday evening! I can still do things I used to do... just not for as long, and it takes much longer to recover! Heh heh...

These tiles were nothing to lay compared to the 600 sq ft of ceramic tile I laid back at the beginning of 2013 in the Badger Bar though! THAT took about 8 weeks, including removal of three different kinds of flooring, a total diamond grind of the concrete floor with an angle grinder, and back-buttering each and every tile, then the grouting. THAT about broke me, and required about 6 chiropractor visits!
