2014 cvo ultra electrical issue
« on: May 11, 2014, 09:37:37 AM »

Took my 14 CVO Ultra for 1000 mile service.  When I picked it up the gear indicator light was gone!  When I got home, 30 miles and shut it off, the 4 ways came on and I had to shut them off manually several times.  Next I tried to start it and could not start it with the clutch lever in.  Had to go to neutral to start.  I started heading back to the dealer.  When I stopped for fuel the bike started up regular and about 5 miles later the gear lights came back.  Obviously a water problem from being washed at the dealer.  Anyone else have this?  Thanks, g

Possibly caused by some ham fisted dealership person blasting water where it should not be, but not necessarily.  I think I'd still get this on record at your friendly dealership (on a repair order, not just a verbal report).

I always find it strange how a product that is expected to be ridden in a downpour, and often sit parked outside, doesn't have a fully waterproof electrical system.  If yours got water in a critical connection, then obviously something isn't right and they need to figure out where the water got in, clean and thoroughly dry out the affected connection or component, and fix whatever allowed the water to get in.  IF this was caused by water, the odds are good it will happen again and eventually cause a major problem.

I agree.  I had the service manager make note on my records.  They were in agreement and will watch for this in the future.  Like it or not, I do plan on getting caught in the rain!!!!  g
