Question for my FLHTCSE2 brethern
« on: May 20, 2014, 04:51:46 PM »

Ok, at the risk of kicking up one hell of an opinion storm here, I'm looking to scrap my SE tuner and go with something else. Factory 103 with upgraded cams (unknown values), Stage 2 air kit, possible head work (dealer seemed to think so due to compression), V&H True Duals and Rinehart slipons. What's everyone tried and how did it work?

Not understanding why you'd want to scrap the HD Tuner.  Just use it to adjust to your new mods.

Yeah, I've had my SERT for 7 years and bike runs great with it.  Just have it properly tuned for the mods you have.

Since it seems the engine mods (perhaps) predate your ownership of the bike so you don't really know what's there anyway you can't load some tuning package's base map and get a close starting point anyway.  Are you planning on dialing it in now, then doing more engine work later, then dialing it in again?  Or just dialing it in once and being done with it?

If the former multiple dyno sessions might suggest some tuning option you could battle with yourself.  If it's a one-and-done thing, however, you've got a competent tuning too already if there is a dyno operator within a range you're comfortable with who is competent to the task.

No one else's opinion really matters though.  Figure out which option best floats your boat than spend the money to keep it off the rocks.  Then ride on.

I use Thundermax with autotune and like it, a little pricey though.
