Installing HD LED Headlamp
« on: June 07, 2014, 08:46:02 AM »

Ok I have searched and even checked the service manual but did not find an answer to my question.

I have a 13 CVO Ultra and purchased the HD LED Headlamp from Surdyke.  MY question is do I need to remove the fairing to change this unit? I know to change the bulbs on the stock dual bulb light I do not have to remove the fairing but to switch to the LED do I need to remove the fairing to install the new housing unit?

Also will the dual bulb halegon headlamp off of my 13 CVO Ultra fit into my 08 Ultra?

Thanks for the help!

Yes, the fairing has to come off because you'll be replacing the entire glass lens and alignment ring.  No reason why the halogen headlamp won't fit the '08.

You won't have to remove the fairing at all.  The whole headlight will come out right from the front. Remove the outer ring,, then the inner retainer with 3 small screws.  Then change out the headlight.  You will have to remove the dual harness from the stock connector.   Plug  that in and reinstall the led headlight.   Then check alignment.  Really easy.

Are you referring to when I install the LED on the 13 or install the dual halogen on the 08?

Your service manual will give you instructions on this so be sure and don't take out the adjusting screws just the ones that hold the chrome trim ring after you get the main chrome ring off and don't loose that little screw at the bottom of the big chrome trim ring which is the first thing you take off. Good luck it is very easy once you do it.

You can replace your headlight in about 5 mins start to finish. No need for the fairing to be removed.

You'll have to add that I don't require beer time any more :) Sober since 2012.

Fairing does not have to come off, takes about 5 minutes to change the assembly!

BUT the dual Halogen will not work on the 08 without modifications to the bucket. it is just too big to go through.
