Look at what??  Observing some oil tells me nothing about the proper level unless it can be compared to a calibration of some sort.  Your answer is non-responsive.

Stick your finger into the primary, pointing straight down.  If it reaches the top of your finger, it's just right.

His answer is the right one. Take off the Derby cover and look at the oil level.  It should be just above the BOTTOM of the clutch pack. To much oil can cause your clutch to slip.

I hear you guys but I wonder if that is true why Harley couldn't have published it?  After all, they took the trouble to put a dip stick in the transmission and in the crankcase but did nothing for the primary case except warn about over filling.
