21" Front Wheel Installation Advice
« on: May 20, 2014, 03:22:26 PM »

Thinking of changing the wheels on my 2014 CVO Road King. Looking at contrast cut black PM wheels but would like to go up to 21" on the front. I realise I will have to install some type of fender adapter kit to raise fender up to fit new wheel size. Question is has anyone done this so far and any advice or tips or better still some pictures of 21" wheel installed on the bike?

Thanks.

Word of caution: several members with 2014 Harley's (on another forum) are running into issues when changing to bigger wheels...seems with the new linked ABS braking system, when changing to bigger wheels, error codes are being thrown/registered and running into some other issues.

I am sure this will be resolved eventually, but not yet, so you might want to hold off temporarily until these issues are resolved (and save yourself some aggravation)!

recently read this on *cough, cough* that other forum:

It is still relatively early for these linked brakes but I received some new information from Performance Machine today.

Up until now if you wanted to do a 21" front wheel on a 2014 touring model with ABS and linked brakes you had to do a 17" or 18" rear as well in order to keep the ABS light from coming on and causing potential issues with the brake system.

I have been informed that if you use the Harley branded Dunlop D408F off the softail breakout (130/60/21 part number 43100008) will work with the stock size rear wheel (16x5) with the stock rear tire (180/65/16) and not cause an issue with the linked ABS system.

They also informed me that you can run a 23" front wheel with the Vee rubber 130/50/23 and an 18x5.5 rear wheel with a 180/55/18 tire without issue with the linked ABS brakes. I will continue to update this thread as information comes in on the subject as well alike to know what will and will not work before we buy it.

So, if you want to do a 21" front only have at it and get the Dunlop tire.

21" is the way to go when you get the codes thing figured out!
I have had the PM Heathens since 08.

Had the 21" street sweepers and the matching rear 200 wheel and tire installed. Had the fender front fender brackets installed. really sets the motorcycle apart. Went through a rear tire in one year. Only several burnouts that i can remeber doing. Worth the money in my book.
