How to stand up a lift table??
« on: July 06, 2014, 12:47:09 PM »

I would like to stand up my lift table against a wall on end...it takes up too much room in the garage when not in use.
I've seen some cheap winches ( http://www.superwinch.com/p/lt2000-2-000-lbs-12v ) on sale for $60..but, it does NOT have a brake, but, does have fwd and rev.
Would like to find a 120v winch....but they start getting pricey.

Any other ideas?

I have a winch similar to this mounted to the ceiling of my garage. Mine was from Northern Tool for about the same price. Although, they are no longer on the NT website.

Something to consider when mounting. Many of these type of winches use planetary gear sets. The noise and vibration can transfer through the house depending on the mount.

I had a winch in my garage,.. that was some yr a go now. I used it for lifting v8s out for doing overhauls, it worked like a cats meow.
It was a 12v 4x4 winch. I hooked up some arc welding cable to it and used the bat from vehicle I was working on. I had mine mounted up on the rafters but you could mount it on the floor with a pulley up at the rafter if you want to stand it up against the wall. I'm sure you could pick up a good used one for lower cost.
It would to the trick (got the power, brake, forward and reverse) all the requirements.
As well as being light weight as far as winches go. In your neck of the woods ya shouldn't have any pro finding one. Just a thought.

Whichever way you go would like to see some pic of the setup

You could look for a winch at harbor freight,  but you might check you lift pump to make sure it won't leak when standing up.

http://t.harborfreight.com/2500-lb-ATVUtility-Electric-Winch-with-Wireless-Remote-Control-61840.html?ccdenc=eyJjb2RlIjoiOTE0Mjg5MTUiLCJza3UiOiI2MTg0MCIsImlzIjoiNTkuOTkiLCJwcm9kdWN0X2lk%0D%0AIjoiMTAzMDcifQ%3D%3D%0D%0A

This one is on sale right now.  You could mount it back from the wall I would say a few feet then run a pulley at the top of the celing next to the wall.  Then down to your lift.   With the remote you  stand off to the side and pull it up against the wall.  Then on either side of the lift when it's against the wall put a eye bolt so you can put a ratchet strap across it to hold it there.

But make sure the hyd. Cyl doesn't leak it's oil out.

you could always countersink it like I did, but then you still have the wheel vice sticking up. But it works great for me.

I really like the recessed lift, looks professional.  If a person found the vise in the way he could weld the nuts on the bottom side for an easy removal & installation.  Depending on what I'm doing on the bike I sometimes remove the wheel vise.  Looks awesome.
