Oil Drain Plug
« on: September 06, 2004, 09:01:05 AM »

Brought my bike in for service and when they took out the oil drain plug I noticed it was the wrong one, it was the allen head plug right next to the drain plug. Anyone know what this plug is for??? The oil drained out of it but it was the wrong plug. Should I have any concerns??
Thanks
This was done by a new kid in their shop....

Yes I also would like to know why they have two plugs for the oil pan. I have by mistake tried that one before. Don't think I ever got it to turn before I stuck my head down there and noticed it wasn't the right one. If I had my camera that got stolen  [smiley=mean.gif] in Toronto I would take a picture for the rest of you so you didn't have to go to the garage and look at what were talking about.

What I think you guys are talking about is plug pipe p/n 45893-99. It is tapped into the oil bag also it is where you would tap in for the oil temp gauge we are all waiting for.

Then there is nothing to worry about with the oil being drained by mistake through this plug??

Not as far as I can tell....it will just make for a looser fit, if and when an oil temp guage would be added......three cheers for teflon tape.

Another possible use for it is if you have a feeling that you would like to take the nostalgic approach with your ride and add a retro presence to it.....you can leave it loose to show that your bike can mark its territory.
