Automatic Forklork on 2011 CVO Ultra Classic
« on: July 18, 2014, 09:29:48 PM »

Has anyone had trouble with their forelocks. I have used mine twice, and the forks would not unlock when I wanted to leave. My bike had to be brought to nearest dealer by flatbed each time. Any thoughts on long term resolution would be appreciated.

Never had a problem with mine and use it all the time.  What did they repair at the dealership each time it went in?

They replaced the entire ignition switch, and locking mechanism the first time. The customer service rep from the factory said that sometimes the wires the power the locking mechanism get wrapped around the stem of the ignition switch. He also said the replacement assembly was re-engineered to avoid a repeat problem. Guess he was wrong, but glad yours works properly.

Mine's always worked fine, but as someone who's recently pulled the switch for a fork upgrade it's one funky setup. It's very easy to get the wires wrapped around the switch if you don't keep them in the correct position AND pull on the harness as you lower the switch back into the bike. Also the CVO supplement tells you to turn the switch to the accessory position when you remove it. For none CVO touring bikes I believe it says move to the fork lock position. Because I installed Harley's double cartridge fork kit I get to look forward to doing it again when I do fork oil changes.

Food for thought,,,, I had to have mine replaced under warranty also. How it went bad I don't know but I suspect that if you hit the lock button on the fob and then remember to turn the switch to the lock position, it may be damaging it. Now I make sure I have the forks locked before either my wife or myself hits the button to lock the bike.

Just had mine replaced also. It was just the opposite. Forks wouldn't lock with the remote.  Get em fixed while still in warranty
 That switch is $505

Its in process. The bike got trailered to Brians HD in Langhorne, PA. They took the lock apart a few times, and found that sometimes it worked smoothly, and others times it got hung up. So a replacement is on order. Thanks for replying.

I've found that if you take the pressure off of the switch, just like you do on your car, it will unlock or lock easily. That means turning the bars until it lines up with the lock pin. Do not ever force the lock. It's true if the wires get wrapped around, it's sure to screw up. Just my experience from the same problem.

My 13 CVO Ultra left me stranded last Thursday night 60 miles from home! I was not a happy camper.

I walked up to the bike and hit unlock on the fob like I always do. The ignition was in the locked position (all the way to the left). I got on the bike, and turned the ignition to run but no lights came on. I turned it back to lock then to run again and still nothing. I tried to turn it back to lock again and it would not move at all. It was pointing at "run" but it was still locked. The forks were locked and no power.

HOG roadside and a connection of my buddies got the bike towed and inside of Chuck's HD. By the time we arrived at Chuck's it was 10:00 pm.

Fortunately the bike was in the middle of the shop and not easily moveable so it got worked on first thing Friday morning. They took the ignition apart and put it back together and said they tried it over 100 times without a hitch. On the Monday prior to this my regular dealer had replaced the inner fairing. Chuck's wouldn't say it was faulty workmanship but he didn't say it wasn't either. They did not replace anything, just realigned everything.

I am concerned though since next month I am taking a trip around Lake Superior and hope this does not happen again out in the middle of nowhere!
