2014s Run Cooler?
« on: July 13, 2014, 10:40:03 PM »

So, I rented my first 2014 Ultra.  We are on vacation in a tropical climate (about 86 degrees and sunny).

Although the "cooler" keeps her going in slow traffic, I can't say that I notice a huge difference in the engine heat baking the bottom of my thighs. :o  Yep, wearing shorts every day/ride.

I'm curious about the heat factor the '14 owners are experiencing compared to pre-14s.  Don't get me wrong, it's a awesome bike. . .  Just not sure I'm ready to trade my 2010 yet.

I complained of the heat on my new Limited and the salesman tried to tell me it was not hot. bad idea on his part I know what heat and cold are. I am changing out the header pipe and getting a tune very soon.

Partial water cooling of the heads isn't going to fix the heat on the legs issue.  It should help the reliability of the heads though.  The heat radiating from the actual heads and cylinders is just one component of the heat felt by the rider.  The exhaust system runs much hotter than the actual engine, and is by far the bigger contributor to the baked leg syndrome.

And that is why I got rid of the stock exhaust system.  :2vrolijk_21:

My wife (rides as a passenger) commented that the exhaust on the 2014 is much hotter than what she's used to on our 2010.  Not sure if that's the case or just seemed that way to her.

But she's always right, ya know?  :P

compared to my 2010 Street Glide with various upgrades...i consider this bike to run much cooler.  I must qualify my answer with i do have a Vance Hines full exhaust (not CA. ready, but then again i don't live there) that is rumored to be sans cat with the SERT or whatever the hell they call that overpriced part....NO DYNO.....and she runs perfect, pipes are nice and chromed, plastic heat deflectors work like a charm she sounds good.
