On the new 2014 bikes has anyone else looked at their digital read out on your oil pressure ?  Mine starts off reading like 32 psi and  after riding to motor warms up drops to like 10 psi back up to 15 psi , talk to other 2014 bikers doing the same thing . On my other bikes always run around 30 psi after hot with regular Gage ?

Mine generally runs around 32-34 PSI when the weather isn't hot.  I rode for about 2 hours today in 110 degree heat and the digital pressure hung in at 24 PSI.

The hotter the motor the thinner the oil. 15lbs after engine is hot would not worry me.

Blooper, my 09 runs at about 32psi on the freeway. On a hot day at idle it is at around 12 to 16psi. I of course have the analog gauge. Just for the record I have about 22k miles on the bike. Just wondered kind of engine oil are you using? CAHDBIKER

Check the actual oil pressure specification in the shop manual.  The older bikes called for 30 - 38 psi at 2000 rpm with the oil at normal operating temperature (230°F).  I can't imagine Harley making drastic changes to that specification to reduce those numbers for 2014.

If you're talking about oil pressure at idle, then it is normal for the pressure to drop as the oil temperature increases.  With a cold engine it may start out at 30 psi at idle but once it reaches normal operating temperature it will drop, often into the 8 - 12 psi range.  That is normal for any fixed displacement oil pump, and it's the same way it works in your car or truck.  The pump puts out more volume as the speed of the pump increases, and the volume of oil moving through a fixed size distribution system is what determines pressure.

If you think you may be getting funny numbers from that digital readout, have a certified mechanics gauge teed in at the oil pressure sending unit and compare the reading to your bikes gauge.

I probably won't even look at the oil pressure readout on the 2014 info screen anymore.  It either reads 27 (road speed) or 10 (idle)..      :-\

At least the air temperature gauge seems accurate on the same readout panel.     :cherry:
