Zumo 550 Buttons
« on: August 14, 2014, 06:42:42 PM »

I noticed one of the buttons are missing and the others can be easily removed and is no longer water proof. Has anyone else had this? How and who repaired it? Cost?

I saw this trick on the Zumo forum, someone took an oversized pencil eraser, put it in the hole then sealed it with waterproof tape.

My buttons fell off as well and I never did get around to trying that trick. Now my 550 touch screen has died again or so I thought. I bought a new one on ebay, it didn't fix it so guy sent me another and that didn't fix it either and in the process of changing those I broke off the little tab that hold the wiring in place. So I am looking for a new used 550 or a mount for the 660 so I can transfer it back and forth between bikes

I really love my 550. My friend has a 660 and he likes mine better too. I actuall lost a button on the hwy somewhere. Impossable to find it. I Ride in the rain at times and I need it to be waterproof. I contacted Garmin it may cost 150 to 100 for a refurbished unit. I found other places that  can seal it but I dont have one of the buttons. It will be several days before Garmin gets back to me. Thanks

Use the pencil eraser for the button. I will see if I can find it on the GPS forum. The guy had some very good instructions for how to do it and it looked pretty good too!

Garmin does have a replacement policy.  A friend of mine had a 550 that the button disappeared, he sent it to them and they sent a "refurbished" one for a fee.  The figure of $150 is in my mind but that may not be correct.  I believe if they can not fix yours in a couple of days the send you back a different one.

I just hope the refurbished unit works as well as the one I have. Only issues are the buttons. You would think if this was a common problem they would sell cases and let the consumer replace it himself . 150 is steep when  missing buttons are the problem

Talked with Garmin. They will exchange it with a refurbihed unit at a cost of 100. It will have the updates. At least it will have updates and a 90 day warrenty. This time I will try to weather proof it someway before lossing  a button

I got my Zumo back today.  Works same as old one best I can tell. At least it's waterproof again.
