I wish to look this thread for the part list of the "Roll your own" with references but nothing !
Where is it possible to found again the list ?

Jacques
Look at it again it's been updated. The first post made by Jerry (grc) had the info, but when the site was transferred to the new software it got cut off. I have modified his first post w/the information from old site.

Hoist...don't know why they do the SEUC's differently...may have something to do with EPA since the sound factor is also involved. The full batwing may make some difference in that regard.

Guys,
I hate to keep typing this.  Maybe I'll just put it down as my signature?
The SEUC DOES have a hi-flow air cleaner.  But if you REALLY want to go out and spend the $140 (or so), go ahead.  That is if you want more engine noise...

yes, the a/c needed to be different because of what is known as "pass-by noise" and yes, it was EPA driven on the NOISE side of things.  The open a/c covers with the open backplates caused a honk coming out of the intake when the microphones were put on the bike as it rolled by.  With the inner fairing and lowers it reflected engine noise back at the mics.

BUT...the A/C element was designed and flows just as much air as the element set up everyone HAS to have.  The other 3 models don't have all that plastic so the sound doesn't reflect back.  So there you have it. Spend your money on where you'll get bang for your buck...like more chrome!   ;D

I have a few questions concerning your post.

Is the element you speak of reusable? I don't think so.

With the restrictive backplate how can it flow as much air to the filter then one that is more open?

I'm not going to argue that the element may flow just as much air, because I don't know. However if there air isn't allowed to get to the filter in the first place it can't do as well as one that has a more open backplate and is letting more air get to the filter.

I think a lot of the reason people are changing to the "Roll Your Own A/C" is it allows us to have a reusable filter, and the backplate allows more air to get to the filter which in theory should allow more air to get to the motor. Also most people that are changing to this set up are changing the pipes so the increased noise isn't an issue.

I'm not sure where he got his information from, but when I had my bike modified before I picked it up, they gave me the factory parts that they took off, and along with the restrictive back plate, was a white-ringed paper filter, that is definitely not the freer-flowing SE air filter which has a blue ring on it.  I was told by the dealer that the SEUC, for whatever reason, didn't come with the SE AC on it and would need to be replaced, along with the backplate when I put the duals and new mufflers on.

I got the same parts back also. Granted I don't have a SEUC/2 but I can't see how that filter and backplate can flow the same amount of air to the motor as the new backplate and larger filter. :confused5: He mentioned the noise factor but the majority of the people that are doing this mod are upgrading exhaust at the same time to a free flowing (louder) exhaust. Noise isn't an issue (IMHO) when doing this upgrade.

I agree, with the aftermarket exhaust that I put on mine, I can't hear any excessive noise coming out of the AC.

Actually, it IS washable.  You simply wash it in soapy water.  there are directions in the service manuals.  FYI. the OE filter is washable too.
The back plate flows the same amout of air as the open backplate.  There are several more holes in the ABS backplate than what is stock on the OE bikes.  Keep in mind, it may look different, but the flow is the same.

Ok, I know this is a dumb question and I probably should be able to figure this out. The "roll your own" A/C will fit a 2007 FLHTCUSE2. Right??  :nixweiss: :nixweiss: I've been reading the posts, but there's a bunch of talk about fit, different spacers etc...    Just a bit confused at this point. I'm getting ready very soon to dyno tune my Jester and this is the last piece to buy. Then off to dyno to see if I can get the motor cooled down a tad and get a good running scooter. (Using stock SE muffs, SERT and "Roll your own" A/C.) I'll post the dyno once done so that we can see the results of this setup.

Anyway, I've printed out the "roll you own" list and just want to verify before getting out the credit card. Thanks.

Ok.....got the message. I'm good.  :2vrolijk_21: Went down and bought the stuff and I'll take my chances on the fit. Excited for sure and can't wait to get it all tuned and then slab time.  :bananarock:
