« on: November 12, 2014, 07:27:54 PM »

Do you re adjust the SAG setting when going from 2up to 1up. Just installed a set of Ohlin's & still getting set up for 2up riding. But i do alot of riding sometimes without the wife.. Gonna be pain in the rear if have to re adjust every time..

A friend of mine had a set of the HD 159s installed at Daytona and the tech said that after the sag is initially adjusted all you have to do is adjust the preload spring one full turn for every 25lbs of weight added or removed. For example if you add 25lbs you add one full turn tighter.

Yep, that is exactly what the Ohlin guy told us.

I am loving the shock.

So in your case if sag was set for 2 up, just turn one turn looser for each 25 pounds you are loosing in weight going to solo.

So if the passenger happened to weight 250 pounds, you'd have to turn the adjuster on each spring 10 turns?  And then crank it back up 10 turns per side when the passenger rides with you next time?  Hmmmm.  Kind of makes one understand why some people just stick with the air shocks.

I seem to remember a better idea from Works Performance.  Two springs per shock, set the main preload with the main spring and then adjust for a passenger with a simple lever for the secondary spring.  :nixweiss:

Does Ohlin's make an integrated pre load adjuster that fits on the baggers? That would make more sence for those who go between solo and two up. Our mono shock bikes have a remote adjuster making adjustments faster than air shocks, but assumably not a possibility for duals.

Definatley going to be a PIA  when going from 2up to single. Should of just gotten some Arnott or Legend adjust on the fly air shocks...

Well my 09 SERG had the air shocks which sucked, and changed them to progressive.  Huge improvement.  My 12 SERG came with HD premium low, about the same as the progressive 944 I had on the 09.  My 13 SERK has the same Hd Premium low, pretty good.

Got my 15 SERGU, first thing I noticed was the rear felt loose in a hard curve, and the ride sucked.  Played with them for three weeks.  Still felt loose and wallowed like a fat pig in the hard curves.

Put the Ohlin HD 159's on it.  Rides better than any harley I have ever owned.  Feels very planted in hard fast curves, never feels loose.  Ride is very good.  Also very simple to change from firm for the twisties to more supple for the interstate.

As for changing the sag, its easy just takes a few minutes.  However for me, its usually only one turn for when I load my gear for a trip.  I do not even have passenger pegs or boards on my Ultra.

I am seriously thinking of getting a second set of Ohlins for my CVO King

the stock air suspension on my 14 cvo limited works quite fine

i agree that having the progressives on my last two cvo ultras was a pain in the butt when i had to adjust for 1 to 2 up

and frankly i can ride this one just as quickly as my 3 previous cvo's...i don't believe the money you pay for the new shocks, and the pita it is to adjust them is worth the perceived benefit

For me, it is not a perceived benefit.  It is a much better ride, night and day better.  I hated the air shock on my CVO RG Ultra right a way.  Far inferior to the HD Premium low that can on my 12 SERG or my 13 SERK.
