TTS Mastertune changed my miles on bike.
« on: October 29, 2014, 01:56:14 PM »

Sent my tuner off to get dual upgrade done by TTS. Put the fullsac DX pipe w/ some V&H slip ons.  Loaded the map that fullsac  supplied. Everything loaded fine.  Went to take a test ride and noticed the mileage was at 1020 miles.  Before I loaded the map mileage was at 977.  Seems to run fine just curious as to why my mileage changed.  Bike is a 2015 FLTRUSE

This is issue that seems to happen on the new can bus touring bikes. It does not happen all the time even if the same bike is reprogrammed. As far as I know it is not known what is causing it. I've seen it on my own bike as well as others.

Steve Cole explained this previously in another thread...
What you have seen, happens on 2014 and 2015 Touring bikes with no reason. I personally reported the issue to HD and it can happen anytime the bike is programmed. Problem is we saw the same thing with a dealer program from DT as well! So it's not only a Mastertune issue but a DigtalTech does the same thing! You can program a bike 20 times and it will never happen then program it once more and it does. We are a little at a loss on it but know it can happen. It is something with the new ECM and Odometer combination they started using in 2014 touring bikes only. It always appears to happen and the trip meter goes down the same number the odometer goes up. In your case the trip meter went to 41.9 and the odometer went up 41.9. I have seen them move by 1 or as much as 45 so far. Since it was all new then I had hopes they would solve it by now, but nothing so far.
I am not sure as I have programed my personal 2014 about 1000 times and it has only done it twice. The 2015 I just finished testing 20 + camshafts and 100+ tunes never did it! Did another 2015 yesterday and it did it first time out. Another odd thing is I have never seen or heard of one adding more than 45 while others as low as 0. So at this point in time I cannot tell you if or when yours may ever do it again. I know that doesn't help much but just wanted to let you know as much as we do about it.

Yup, happened to me too.  Added 57 miles to mine too. Steve said he'd seen it happen.

I wouldn't mind so much if it was taking the mileage DOWN rather than putting it up!  ;D

Look at it on the bright side;

You get an extra 45 miles out of your tires....

That could be a good thing, if the miles went the other way.

From what was just read here it seems no one really knows for sure what the cause is.  Some code error in the OE hardware that allows it to happen or something downstream from that in the aftermarket's application.  Changing an odometer is still a Federal felony though.  Each state has their own laws on the subject too.  If memory serves the amount of change nor the intent really matter either.  As either an OE or the aftermarket provider that were involved and knowing this was happening the circumstances would scare the bezeesus out of me.  Would hate to get in a he-said-she-said with Mother Harley over who was to blame were it ever necessary.  MoCo has more lawyers, more money, more engineers and at least a perceived historical record of willingness to claim correctness despite other facts on the ground when it suits their needs.
