I'm an optometrist who fits contacts and does pre and post op lasik exams and would not recommend monovision for a rider. It's not perfect in that you sacrafice some distance vision and a lot of depth perception so judging distances is very compromised. For best vision and depth perception always balance both eyes for distance with contacts, glasses, or lasik.

I have lasik mono. They never told me that I would lose distance vision. Although I complained and was told that I need a "touchup" they decided that my vision was fine on the machine so no touch up.
I don't notice depth perception problems though. No problems going from distance to up close either. I do have some halos after several years and bright lights especially blue leds bother my eyes.
They told me with mono my brain would adjust the distance and up close vision. I have great up close but poor distance. I guess I'm missing some brain cells. Darn '70's must have got 'em!
Screw glasses though!

Will they ever come up with a surgery or contacts for those of that wear progressive glasses? would love to be able to buy a pair of sunglasses of the shelf! My company gave me a pair of Maui Jim's a couple of weeks ago and by the time I took them to my doctor to send them to maui Jim for the prescription lenses my "free" sunglasses cost me $650. Frustrating

I checked and the surgery requires lens replacement . Basically the same as cataract surgery. Here around 4K per eye. I'm waiting until real thing kicks in and insurance pays.

There are bifocal implants after cataract surgery and bifocal contact lenses, but both have limited success. There are "progressive" soft contact lenses out there and the only one that is worth trying is the Bausch and Lomb Multifocal, but again there will be compromises. The thing we have going for us now is that a lot of  folks in research and development are getting in their senior years and that should speed things up. Before they didn't care and now its personal. Also technology has changed in that from idea to product takes a matter of days instead of years to be tested, so bring it on.

I know what's with this 40 crap............ both my wife and I, the same exact thing when we turned 40, we both all of a sudden needed glasses. Yes, really sucking getting old, never thought I'd hear myself say it. Still laughing hard and having fun though!!!!! :drummer: :2vrolijk_06:
just wait for the 50s crap..................though I remind myself its all good
