Is the knob completely gone exposing the switch?  Or is the switch itself still covered by the knob/tumbler assembly?  Hard to make a suggestion without knowing what's actually there.

Share a picture if you can.

FWIW on my Road Glide (same type switch as your 2006) a few years ago the knob/tumbler failed internally.  Key would spin all the way around as would the knob but without either doing anything to the other.  So no way to remove the knob to actually get at the switch beneath it.  Ended up covering everything adjacent with heavy blankets and taking a cut off tool to the knob to get it out of the way.  Ended up having to replace the switch and everything above it of course but at least the job got done.  That's the only one I've ever seen fail like that.

knob broke off the rod...the rod is just sitting inside. I think I can drill into it and use the drill bit to pull it up and out of the housing because there is nothing holding the rod in place but the rod is like a key so I'll have to twist the drill bit with my fingers to clear the rod through the tumblers....might take a few minutes but I know it will work. I just bought a brand new knob with keys on ebay for $60 bucks  too

So the ignition switch itself is exposed.  Why not just take it off the bike and turn it upside down while shaking some?  Might get lucky.

Is it broken flush with the top or below the top of the tower of the ignition switch?  If down inside I'm not sure that drilling it will help much as a bit inside the shaft still won't have any purchase or leverage to turn it.  If it's at the surface I'd try a Dremel and put a notch in it to turn it with a screw driver.

Good luck getting it sorted.  Just an FYI you can buy the knob and order it with your key code so the fork lock and the saddlebags still have the same key.

when It broke it dropped down flush...but I know I can get it now but thanks....removing and turning upside down will be next  if it dont work. I tried drilling and pulling when it first happened bud It didnt come out due to the shape of the end of rod having to fit like a puzzle piece and didnt realize what I needed to do until last night. unfortunately I won't be back home for over a week to try again

That sounds optimistic.  Good deal.  Even your very worst case isn't too bad as you can get to the screws to just remove the switch and throw it away if you must.  Beat that problem like a dirty rug then ride on :2vrolijk_21: .
