CVO Compatible Stereos
« on: November 08, 2014, 12:24:28 AM »

I am looking for info on purchasing an aftermarket Stereo that will work with most of the functions on my 2011 FLTRUSE.  I do not use the CB, but would like to continue use of my intercom, satellite radio, iPod, am/FM radio, CD player and all of my hand controls. I do see that Jensen makes the BT HD radio with most of the features.  Has anyone installed one on their CVO and if so how well does it work.  I am on my second Harmon Kardon and am experiencing issues with my iPod interface again.  Would appreciate any feedback as I am not happy with what is provided stock and have seen mixed reviews on the Iron Cross Audio products.

i am certanly no fan of the HK  radio...ditched mine too... but you should really just send the HK radio to iron cross audio in NJ. theyll fix it and give you a warranty.

I hear Sony makes a good unit that works with the hand controls.   And it has a usb jack.   You can ditch the iPod and put your music on a memory stick that will most likely work much better and be more reliable.   I haven't done this,, but will if the stock HK goes bad.   Good luck. Stuart

The Sony nor any other aftermarket head unit will work directly with the hand controls.  Sony and many other head units will work with the hand controls with the addition of an interface control unit that makes the connections though.

Check out the kit at the link below.  It will include the interface and the mounting hardware necessary to put the aftermarket radio in the bike.

My last bike was an Electra Glide Standard which had no radio. I put the Biketronics kit in it and had to replace just the stereo about every 2 years. The after market stereos did not seem to handle the vibration of a Harley very well!

In my experience that's not an uncommon problem.  The marine grade aftermarket head units might hold up a little better.  But I've had them fail too.

I thinks for that reason I stay with the stock radio.  :-\
