« on: November 21, 2014, 04:09:28 PM »

Im getting a lot of valve clattering at various rpms on my 15 FLHXSE, is this pretty common like the mechanics at HD have told me????
Thanks for your input

It's virtually impossible for anyone on the site to tell you if yours is typical or not, since we can't hear it, but stock 110's do have a reputation for being noisy.  It's even more obvious of course on bikes with fairings and lowers, since they reflect more of the sound up to the rider.

If you're worried about it and think yours isn't acceptable, ask them to let you ride some other similar bikes with the 110 engine and let you compare.

Thx Jerry.. Good point about the fairing lowers . This is the 1st bike Ive had with them. I didn't notice it on My 09 FLSTSSE3 It had louder pipes and no windshield and no fairing or lowers. I didn't notice as much clattering at 1st on this bike (the 15). It seems loudest at about 2k rpms??

Jerry is right, that is the best way to verify if it is normal, if the other bikes don't sound the same then they don't have a leg to stand on when they say "they all do that". We use it daily to make sure if there is a problem or normal operation.

thx deldago. Im thinkin its the fact I can hear a lot more engine sounds cause of the lowers.
