Another 110" to 113" build thread
« on: December 17, 2014, 03:44:17 AM »

Ok guys my 110" in my CUSE2 is making some piston skirt slap in the front cyl . 2750-3200 pingy rattle? MY LOCAL DEALER HAS PUT IN 3sets of Pistons. In the last few years. However my ESP is expired. I just know the heart is not long for this world.
So I'm thinking of some forged Mahle pistons that I will have sent out and cryogenicly  treated.
Then maybe some beehives for the heads with a bit of port work.
I have a great machine shop here in nor cal that is one of the best in all of the usa. TEM MACHINE
Please comment on some parts you would or would not use?
Cams? I like some tq but love me some 5000 plus rpm roar. I do a lot of mountain road in and out of the throttle ridding. No 2 up riding for me. Don't even have rear pegs/foot boards.
I have been happy with the 255's but I'm just not up an all that are out there.
I have S&S premium lifters w/ limiters and ADJ P/R,2" rhinhert tru duals 3.5", kuryakyn hypercharger and wards fans with T-Stat in the oil cooler,PCIII
TUNING
Please discuse

With proper fitment (clearance with torque plates) the mahle piston and stock cylinder package is very robust.
Very difficult to find any peer reviewed data justifying cryogenic treatment.

Would not a cryogenic treatment cause the pistons to be come brittle?

We have had (magic Smoke Performance) awesome results with cryo'ed parts especially in rotating assembly's. Rods, pistons, cranks etc

Your Ping/rattle could be from over advance on the ignition. Factory timing is very aggressive and a power commander is not the best at removing problems there.

The rattle I have is more rattle on light throttle rolling off just into decel.
Which leads me to believe it's not timing related. Give it a load and it's gone

The rattle you hear could be that Hypercharger, the butterfly's get sloppy. Also they are one of the poorest flowing air cleaner on the market. The Kury Mach 2 on the other hand flow very well.

I really like the 585 ss at 10.5:1 with some headwork and a tune, tts and fullsac.
Easy on the pocket and runs like somebody is chasing it.
Just what worked for me.

Ok for the guys that don't like hyperchargers. Rain? You say i ripped across Nevada a few years ago on the way home from Sturgis 400 miles of rain at 80 plus mph on a wide glide. 0 problems with water in the motor. The butterflies actually deflect water off the filter. I also had a buddy with the same year and same set up FXDWG. Same mods Simaler weight. Only diff was I had the hypercharger he had the SE filter. On a 5th gear roll on at 70-75 he would have to down shift to stay with me. Now I know this is by no means scientific except my butt dyno is never wrong. Lol
