Adding speakers to fairing lowers???
« on: December 18, 2014, 08:16:07 AM »

I bought this: J&M Perf Series 7.25” Lower Fairing Speaker Kit. I have the HD amp on my 2011 Ultra Glide and Rokker speakers installed now ans just want to wire these up in parallel with the front speaker and not add another amp. See any issues doing it this way???

Thanks for any help.

Just make sure the Ohms are correct.

If you do a search of the threads on the CVO site you will find instruction regarding what you need to know to accomplish your task.

Yes, you'll probably blow your head unit or amp! You need to check your speaker impedance carefully when wiring speakers in parallel. Looking at the J&M web site the Rokkers are spec'd at 2 ohms so in parallel they'd be a 1 ohm load to your head unit/amp. I believe the stock HK unit is stable to 2 ohms or higher.
Bottom line is you'll have to wire them in series; but I believe they will then be seriously underpowered by the stock HD amp. Consider adding the Rokker amp (or another 4 channel amp) and then you can run each speaker from its own channel
