2009 SERG Battery & Heated Jacket Harness
« on: December 28, 2014, 04:14:10 PM »

Happy New Year everybody....my wife bought me a heated jacket liner and gloves for Christmas. I removed the seat to add the harness to the battery, but i am having trouble getting the top caddy out of the way (2009 SE Road Glide) so i can access the terminals. My service manual says to release the "purge solenoid" from the caddy. i don't think i have one. i have a connector, but doesn't look like the purge solenoid. then it says to release the HFSM from the top caddy. i have tried, but i can't get it to release. does it pull straight up? or twist off?.

I read through some threads about turning the ignition switch to "ON" to disarm the alarm...which the manual did not mention, before removing the negative terminal from the battery. so i'm glad i did not do that (removed the negative cable screw without the bike ignition "ON"). i also saw where you folks suggested removing the main fuse after turning switch to on and removing the negative terminal cable.

so, i would like to get this harness put on over the holidays, but having trouble with the top caddy and the HFSM module. is there something i am missing here? also, when i do get the caddy out of the way, and the ignition on, cables removed from the battery and main fuse pulled, what is the order to go back together? i am assuming the ignition switch will still be in the "ON" position so i just reinstall the main fuse first, then the positive cable, and lastly the negative cable so the alarm won't go off and be trying to get the alarm system turned off somehow?

any advice or simple procedures would be appreciated. and if any of you have pictures that can be shared for the location of the harness end protruding out the left side of the bike is also welcomed..

much thanks in advance!!!!

Ignition on, remove fuse, ignition off. Do your work then install fuse with ignition off. It is to disarm your security system so it won't go nuts when you disconnect the battery.

Thx OBB..

one last thing!! how do you get the cady out of the way? i removed the two hold down bolts and tried to pull "forward" like the manual suggests, but i could not get it past the front clip or bracket at the front of the battery.  i could not get the HFSM to pop loose from the cady. can you tell me what the trick is here?

BTW..i am from OH originally and from the Dayton area. haven't lived there since '89.

thanks in advance.

It is a tight fit in there, you need to be a bit aggressive in sliding it forward to get it over the hold down clip.  Getting mad at it always helps me :-)

You have to slide it forward and push down on the front to release it.

OBB posted the correct procedure to disarm the security system, but missed one critical thing ... you need to have the security fob nearby when you start the process.  Otherwise, you will set off the security alarm.  That's the way it works on my 2009 CVO Ultra.

Thanks for the correction. I'm in the habit that anytime I'm going to be near my bike I have a fob in my pocket. I must be assuming that everyone does that.
