Thunderheader 2-1 vs Rinehart true duals
« on: February 01, 2015, 09:20:58 PM »

One of my friends has a 15 CVO Road Glide on order and it will be here in a couple more weeks.  He's narrowed it down to putting on either the Thunder Header 2 into 1 with ghost pipe or Rinehart true dual system (and I guess he's talking about using their mufflers too).  He asked me to make a post and ask if anybody can summarize why he might want to get one over the other.  I'm not sure what has attracted him to these two in particular and I don't think he has actually heard the Thunder Headers before.  I'm not getting further involved in suggesting any other systems, as I don't want him to get even more overwhelmed with making this decision.  I'm just glad he is down to two.  I already know that regardless of what system he puts on, he'll love his new bike.  Any input?

I believe if any tuners comment, they'll prefer the Thunderheader.  I know Bob at RC Cycles is a fan of the Thunderheader, and runs one on his bike...

I think Bob now runs a Supertrapp.
If the bike will see a lot of Interstate speeds the Thunderheader can be hard on the ears. After many years of running one I couldn't take the headaches I'd get from 4+ hours in the saddle.

Could be...  I think the Thunderheader may have been on the bike he crashed...

Thunderheader for the performance, and the RH TD for riding comfort.  He needs to sit down and figure out what type of riding he does and what he is using the bike for.  I have been a TH lover for 20+ years.  They are obnoxiously load, and the fit and finish won't be as good as the RH's.

You might begin by asking your friend what his goals are in an exhaust and how he came to land on the two choices.  That would provide a lot more information for the guys here to offer suggestions.

Performance and "the sound" definitely the Thunderheader.  I run Thunderheader on a number of bikes for years and while I never got a headache on long hauls, not even after 12-15 hour days in the saddle but I do believe that's a big part of the reason that I now have a problem with hearing certain tones.  Thunderheader has a deep, throaty sound but they are loud when the throttle is twisted.

LOL, me either.........20 years ago. After I turned 60 it started to bother me, so I went from a TH to a Supertrapp on my 113", didn't lose any hp/tq and moved the tq left a little.

A Thunderheader really blasts when you have a trailer behind you. What?

My pipes are loud. I like it. I guess I am too deaf for the sound to bother me anymore. Got my excuse not to listen to the wife any longer.
