Nebraska is one of the least interesting states there is. Flat & tearfully boring. Kansas is #2 on that list.
The Dakotas are flat & bleak.
Utah can be very interesting if only for its desolateness as well, and there's the Bonneville Salt Flats on route 80 on the Utah/Nevada border. [Check when they have record-setting events there.]
There are some good Nat'l Parks: Petrified Forest, Estes Park, Pikes Peak, Yellowstone with its geysers, the Tetons, etc. Trail Ridge Road, is worth the visit (ride). The Badlands are interesting/unique, but relatively small, and I think they're actually too 'bad' to drive thru. [?]
The eastern half of CO is as boring as KS & NB, but the western half of Colorado is v. mountainous and v. scenic. Ditto, Wyoming.
Montana is interesting if only for it's absolute vastness.
If you do your research, there are some historically interesting Indian sites around: Custer's last stand, etc. But mostly places where 'we' took their land and killed them off or ran them off. There are remnants of the various wagon train trails--there were several--some still have visible wagon wheel ruts/tracks across the barren landscape. There are also some dinosaur bone sites. Some pony express trails, but you'd have to do your homework/research. For your Brit Buds, I'd think the sheer vastness of "The West" would be of interest.
