Stock exhaust tip removal
« on: February 18, 2015, 04:11:47 PM »

I have a new 2015 FLHTKSE CVO with stock exhaust.  Does anyone know if I can change the exhaust tips?  My dealership says no.  It looks to me like they would come off with the removal of one set screw.  Just wondered why they would come off if I can't replace them with something else.

Loosen the three clamps on muffler heat shield. You can then rotate the shield to access the 3 fasteners holding the muffler end cap.

Click on the attached drawing to expand it.  I'm not sure on the current model, but in the past those tips on the CVO models weren't the same as the ones in the accessory catalog.  Before you waste a lot of money ordering new tips, you might want to make certain what you're ordering will definitely fit the CVO muffler.

I searched pretty hard for different end caps for my 2012 CVO mufflers. I ended up pulling the stock ones of and I'm getting them powder coated gloss black. Chrome got stripped last week. Powder coating should be done this week.

Powder coating seems like a good option.   Thanks  . . .

There was a thread (no I am NOT searching thru 4,000 exhaust threads)! I seem to remember a Harley Davidson part ( an adapter used on some HD fishtail exhaust ) once attached it allowed a whole bunch of options for replacement tips.

yes, you are correct.  however, that adapter is obsolete.  there's probably some out there somewhere, but good luck finding them...

Some folks give up too easy on the search tool.  It is flaky, but once you hit on the right combination it often works.

Last time I checked the rings were no longer sold by H-D, but there may be some floating around out there in dealer inventories.  If not, a talented person might be able to fabricate something similar.
