Ring Gear removal
« on: February 23, 2015, 12:10:54 PM »

Well now that I have 5 teeth missing on my ring gear it is time to replace it. Has anyone removed one other than pressing it off?

Yes, typically you replace the basket. Evolution industries makes a replacement gear.

Ring gears are typically removed by quickly heating them to expand with a torch.  Installation is usually done by heating the whole gear evenly and slipping on.  This is for automotive applications.  May work for a bike also.  would be careful with the thinner metal.
