2006 CVO Fatboy engine modifications.
« on: April 26, 2015, 08:10:36 PM »

Hi all.
I'm looking at purchasing a 2006 CVO Fatboy & i've read that the twin cams from 1999 - 2006 are good..... but to really get them up & running the heads need to be ported, change to gear drive & upgrade the oil pump & cam plate. (It already has a Vance & Hines 2/1 big radius exhaust).
Has anyone done these mods or could give any recommendations to tweak up this model CVO?
Thanks.

I had an 02 King that I did all of what you mentioned. Bored out the head to a 96 CI, forged domed pistons, gear driven cams, etc. plus a 2-1 Vance and Hines Pro pipe. Was stupid fun to drive. Had 100HP and 103 Tq as I recollect. Could pop a wheelie and eat rice burners 0-60.

Can't remember the particulars of what went in there or would tell you but yes, can defiantly get that FB to scoot!

Bore to 98"
Andrews 37G/Wood 6 for example, and set at 10.0 cr.
Heads that'll run up at 150-155 cfm/10".
Bore the t/body to 50mm, and port the manifold.
Cut the V&H baffles in half............get it tuned.
OE pump and plate are more that adequete, just use Cyco shoes and a Zippers pressure shim..............those that change out the plate/pump to some fancy anodized unit are probably the same ones that fell into the Shovel "unleaded seat" conversion of yesteryear.

If it's a Pan with bronze seats, I'd change 'em.   ;D

This ride should have a 103 in it. He said it is a 06 CVO Fatboy.

all that 103 really NEEDS is to have the cams changed out. and while your there check the tensioners just because.  you can have some head work done if you want but she already is not the same as the "standard" 103's. its very likely that it will be out of tolerance to just install gear drive cams which means a lot more money bring it into tolerance and then gear cams. There will be others who can tell you better what cams to put in it. That SHOULD be a screaming eagle 103 motor in that bike if its a cvo.

If your keeping it a 103

S&S 570 cams, 50 mm throttlebody, 1.940 intake have the heads done by Sachs he has done tons of these hemi heads, leave the 4.35 injectors,
Compression at 10 to 1

Or a LC 124 S&S with 585's

Well being the bike does not have ACR heads and the stock heads do flow decent the big bore kit to 107 works very well, or leave it as a 103  stock t/b and heads have huge gains to offer. Even basic port work with a SE t/b will olny boost the power  Add a S&S 570 cam with ES and re tune. We have done several and the pipe is a huge player in the final power numbers and curve.. Real testing has shown the cutting the baffle on the Big radius is a not the correct way to produce power or enhance the power curve on the larger % of builds. If cutting is needed that would be decided after you see the curve..

Scott ,..before you  re-post the same thing time after time on Cutting the baffles why not post up some before and after graphs of the pipe with and without cut baffles. As with all of the bikes we tune the baffles that have been cut show less power than stock and the curve is not been improved.
