EITMS
« on: May 10, 2015, 06:37:07 PM »

Just a question, I have a 2013 CVO Road glide (Atomic orange/gray) color has nothing to do with question, not long after I got my bike it would go into the EITMS rear cylinder shut down all the time at a stop, early in the morning when it was still cool, bike running only a few miles, and when warmer as well, the question is the dealer turned the system off, the bike has been running fine but has there been any updates that can be downloaded to fix the earlier glitch in the EITMS. And by the way HI to all,I have been a member for a while but more of a silent member. PS This is my 2ND CVO Road glide,1st was a 09 guess I didn't learn. Thanks Jeff

Jeff,

Welcome! For heat issues the general consensus here will probably be a good Dyno tune with something like a TTS Mastertune. Beyond that a fan like Wards Parts Werks fan really helps.

It wasn't necessarily a glitch in the EITMS.  Harley has it programmed to kick in at a relatively low head temperature (about 286°F if I remember correctly), and it doesn't take many miles to get up to that temperature.  Did the dealership do any diagnostics at all, or did they just turn the EITMS off?  Btw, you can turn it on or off yourself if you want, the instructions are in the owner's manual and it's a simple procedure.

I think a lot of folks turned the system off soon after buying the bikes, so your situation isn't unique.

Thanks for the input, I did put Vance and Hines pipes and the V&H tuner on at about 1000 miles 900 miles after the EITMS was turned off. have about 8000 miles on it now. Bike runs great, I was just wondering why they made a big deal about this feature when I bought the bike and 2 weeks later turned it off. I didn't let them put my bike on the dyno, they wanted me to sign a wavier if THEY blew MY motor up it was on me. They said they had to run it up to about 6-6500 rpm's didn't feel comfortable let them take my bike to a place it will never see in it's life, just me I guess.

After tuning, it has to get pretty warm for mine to come on. Bike runs a lot cooler since losing the cat and getting a tune.

13 and earlier bikes EITMS is activated by head temperature if it is on.  14 and newer bikes EITMS is activated by ambient temperature, 80 degrees and on it comes.

Once my 12, and then 13 were properly tuned, my EITMS was set to on, but was harley active.  My 15, tune has nothing to do with it.  So I leave mine off, as its usually running cooler than my 13, but would come one when ever stopped in the summer.
