Infotainment GPS Map went dark
« on: May 06, 2015, 07:12:46 PM »

Riding home Sunday...following the gps route to home.  When after about a hour into the ride, I noticed that the screen was dark.

Music was still playing....hit the home button all normal....pressed NAV/Map and the map screen was dark.  The route directions has also stopped.

All other facets of the Infotainment seemed to be working except when it came to GPS.  No Info just Tainment :nixweiss:

When I got home...shut down and restarted and all seemed normal.

I now wish I would have pressed and held the power button for 3 sec to turn the unit off then on again to see if it would have fixed it.

Has this happened to anyone?

Harman Kardon has the contract to build these units. I would hope that Harley is on their ass. At least let us know that something is being done to fix these glitches. The newest software update has been out for quite awhile and the infotainment in its second year. Come on.  The ordeal of having to shut off and turn on the radio twice to get the avc working is getting old.

What I don't understand is that this is not lead edge technology....Garmin and TomTom have been doing this for years.  The Zumo's are a great unit and you would think they would use it as a bench mark for features and functionality.

I had some strange things like that happening and it ended up being the battery. I knew the battery was getting weak but the last thing I thought it would impact was the display. Once I changed the battery the display never went black on me again.  Everything else worked and even the radio worked when the display was black.

Interesting....was this with the motor running?

My guess, my 15 will be traded for a 17 or 18 before they fix the bugs in this.  As you point out, the head unit has been in production over 18 months now, still not right, and they are still cranking them out.  I have called after each update to let them know of the issues.

Yes when the bike was running.  Everything worked fine but it was dark. Sometimes it would stay dark after killing everything and starting back up. It was odd and the last thing I thought it would be was the battery due to the small draw of current it uses.
