Radiator Screen
« on: April 30, 2015, 12:48:10 PM »

Returned home after a 325 mile dinner cruise yesterday to realize I lost the radiator screen at some point.  The radiator fins were packed full of insects which did not make for an easy cleaning.  Not a good thing.  I didn't even know the damn screens were removable.

My question: since I have to purchase a new one, does anyone know if there is anyone out there selling them in chrome?

Other than clipping a bird, might be when I lost the radiator screen, and barely missing an antelope, it was a great day.  Now I'm not saying had I been alone I would have hit it but the screams from the back seat sure got my attention.

I'm looking at this on my phone so I can't tell what your bike is. However, if you have radiators it must be a 14 or a 15. Wouldn't this thus be a warranty issue?

Not likely if it was knocked off by a bird strike.  I believe they are just retained by push in clips, so I imagine it wouldn't be that hard to knock one off.

Yea they come off real easy just using your fingers to remove and clean them. I can see a bird strike easily knocking one off. Not sure if anyone is making a chrome one yet.

I looked on the Harley accessory site and the J&P catalog, and didn't see anything offered for the Twin Cooled radiator screens.  I'm surprised Harley hasn't come out with a chromed version, since they seem to offer other chrome bits as soon as they introduce a new item in production.  Maybe they prefer to maintain the stealth mode by not drawing attention to the radiators?  There are still plenty of folks who aren't crazy about having a radiator on their hog.

Have never seen any...Hopefully they design a better way to secure them at any price!

Thanks for the comments and for checking.  I'm not sure what I think about this liquid thing but its already cost me twenty bucks.  Hopefully that's the worst of it.

A little Bug Slide and a toothbrush worked ok.  The fins are delicate so go gingerly.  I'm knew to the whole liquid thing too so any ideas will certainly be welcomed.
