2010 Softtail Cvo Convertiable tuner or ?

I have a stock 2010 Softtail CVO Convertible the only thin g I have is Rush slip INS 7200 miles runs good.  But it backfires every now and then and gets hot and goes into parade mode everyone once in a while .  Should I get a tuner to help cool it down and maybe a Lila more horsepower   And can it be had for about 400.00    I also have very Lila mechanical skills.  Can a newbie do install with out ruining the bike or would I also have to pay someone to install.?  I can do oil changes and primary and plugs etc but that is about it.  which one would you recommend in that price range and installation
